El Col d'Aubisque apareció en el Tour de Francia en 1910, cruzado por François Lafourcade. Ha aparecido con frecuencia desde entonces, más de una vez cada dos años. Se incluyó a insistencia de Alphone Steinès, un colega de Henri Desgrange en el Tour de Francia. Steinès visitó al responsable de las carreteras locales, el ingénieur des ponts-et-chaussées, quien dijo: "¿Llevar a los ciclistas por el Aubisque? Estás completamente loco en París."
