La batalla del río Sambre o batalla del Sabis fue el enfrentamiento, en julio del año 57 a. C., de las legiones de la República romana dirigidas por Cayo Julio César y las tribus belgas de los nervios, atrebates y viromanduos al mando del jefe Boduognato. La victoria fue de los primeros. En el invierno del 58-57 a. C., el procónsul Cayo Julio César escuchó rumores que indicaban la disposición de los belgas para atacar a los romanos a través de cartas del legado Tito Labieno.[9] Supuestamente se habían rebelado, juntando masas de guerreros y realizando asambleas secretas. Así, el procónsul volvió a toda velocidad.[10]
