El roble se sitúa a la entrada del bosque como un valiente guardián. La leyenda dice que tiene más de 850 años. Se dice que era el lugar donde se reunían las brujas por la noche. Su nombre se remonta a la gran época de la brujería tras la peste de 1505. Otra leyenda afirma que en 1180, el emperador Federico Barbarroja, durante una cacería, habría clavado su espada en el tronco para fijar el lugar de la parada del almuerzo. Lugar místico, el roble está clasificado como Árbol notable de Francia.
