De eik staat bij de ingang van het bos als een dappere bewaker. Volgens de legende is het meer dan 850 jaar oud. Het zou de plaats zijn waar heksen elkaar 's nachts ontmoetten. De naam stamt uit de grote heksentijd na de pest van 1505. Volgens een andere legende zou keizer Frederik Barbarossa in 1180 tijdens een jacht zijn zwaard in de koffer hebben gestoken om de plaats van de lunchstop vast te leggen. Een mystieke plek, de eik is geclassificeerd als opmerkelijke boom van Frankrijk.
