En la Edad Media, Saint-Girons era una Sauveté que podía rivalizar en importancia con la de Mimizan. A la salida del pueblo, en dirección a Linxe, se alza una columna de piedra blanca de 5 m de altura en la calle des Chênes, vestigio de esta Sauveté cuyos habitantes, colocados bajo la autoridad del señor y de los eclesiásticos, se beneficiaban de la protección y de ciertas franquicias. Estas sabanas eran centros de asentamiento y lugares de refugio para los peregrinos a Santiago.
