Este castillo es un notable ejemplo de la arquitectura del Renacimiento mosano, un sutil compromiso entre las limitaciones militares y el esplendor de una residencia principesca (siglo XVI).Configurado desde el siglo X por sucesivos propietarios, el castillo de Hierges desempeñó un papel decisivo en la transmisión del conocimiento bizantino durante el regreso de las Cruzadas.También estuvo en el centro de las luchas de poder entre Francisco I y Carlos V. Residencia de grandes señores y personajes ilustres, esta fortaleza fue un lugar de intrigas, juegos de poder y estrategias que influyeron en la historia de esta región. El castillo de Hierges también tuvo el inmenso privilegio de acoger entre sus muros a varias familias reales durante el siglo XX. El castillo no está abierto al público.
