El primer Hôtel de l'Intendance se construyó en el siglo XVIII en el marco de un gran proyecto urbanístico dirigido por el mariscal de Belle-Isle, que dio a Metz su primera muestra de estilo clásico. Sede de la Prefectura desde 1806, el edificio de la izquierda fue parcialmente reconstruido siguiendo el mismo modelo tras un incendio.
