Le premier Hôtel de l'Intendance est érigé au XVIIIème siècle dans le cadre d'un grand projet urbanistique et sous la houlette du Maréchal de Belle-Isle, qui donne là l'empreinte du style classique à Metz. Siège de la Préfecture depuis 1806, le bâtiment de gauche a été partiellement reconstruit sur le même modèle après un incendie.
