Las casamatas, como la del Petersberg, son bloques de hormigón con una cámara de tiro y un sótano que aseguran la continuidad del fuego entre dos obras mayores. Esta potencia de fuego es suministrada por una nueva arma adaptada a las fortificaciones: la ametralladora doble (JM). En Escherange, la casamata se encuentra en un entorno bucólico, en las inmediaciones de las ruinas de la antigua iglesia (Alte Kirch). Un paseo por el bosque circundante le llevará a otros refugios ocultos o a un pequeño patrimonio militar excepcional, ¡como un antiguo tanque enterrado!
