Una vez hubo un zoológico en la Torre. Historiador Harry De Paepe: "... la tradición de los animales en la Torre en realidad comenzó en el siglo XIII, cuando el entonces rey de Inglaterra recibió un elefante como regalo, porque no sabía qué hacer con ese animal, le dio refugio en la Torre."
