Deira fue un reino en la Inglaterra anglosajona y conformó, junto a Bernicia, el poderoso reino anglo de Northumbria. El origen de Deira fue la colonia de laeti de Deywr que formaba parte del Reino de Ebrauc . Las fronteras originales de la colonia se corresponden con el actual condado de Yorkshire del Este, y posteriormente se ampliaron al tomar el control de todo el reino britano. La unión del reino con su vecino del norte en el 654 y las campañas de conquista sobre los reinos celtas colindantes, convirtieron a Northumbria en el reino dominante de todo el norte de Inglaterra y del sur de Escocia, y York en el centro administrativo y religioso de la Inglaterra septentrional.
El nombre del reino es de origen britano, posiblemente de la palabra Deifr, que significa "aguas", o de Daru, que significa "roble".
