La batalla de Vukovar fue un asedio de 87 días contra la ciudad de Vukovar, en el este de Croacia, entre agosto y noviembre de 1991. Durante dicho conflicto se enfrentaron las tropas del Ejército Popular Yugoslavo , con el apoyo de diversas fuerzas paramilitares serbias, y la Guardia Nacional Croata , posteriormente integrada al Ejército de Croacia.
En su momento, fue la batalla más feroz y prolongada de toda Europa, y Vukovar fue la primera ciudad importante europea totalmente destruida desde la Segunda Guerra Mundial.[9][10] Cuando Vukovar cayó el 18 de noviembre de 1991, cientos de soldados y civiles fueron masacrados por las fuerzas serbias y por lo menos 31 000 civiles fueron deportados de la ciudad y sus alrededores.[11][12]
