Hace unos cien años, se construyó la ruta ferroviaria de Parenzana de Porec a Trieste .
En ese momento, el tren tenía una velocidad de unos 25 km por hora y tardó de 6 a 7 horas en cubrir la ruta completa de 123 km .
Conectó los tres países y proporcionó transporte de bienes y personas. Estuvo operativo desde 1902 hasta 1935 .
Después de eso, el transporte por carretera se abarató y se detuvo el tráfico de trenes.
A partir de 1996 se empezaron a hacer piezas como ruta pedestre/ciclística . Hoy es una bonita ruta por los lugares más bonitos de estos tres países . El punto más bajo de la ruta está a solo 2 m sobre el nivel del mar y el punto más alto está a 293 m sobre el nivel del mar. El trazado cuenta con más de 600 curvas, 9 túneles, 11 puentes y 6 viaductos.
