En el accidente ferroviario de Herceghalom, ocurrido el 1 de diciembre de 1916 a las 00:24 en la estación de Herceghalom, Hungría, en la línea oriental, se produjo una colisión lateral entre un tren expreso y un vagón de pasajeros de clasificación. 69 personas fallecieron.
El emperador Francisco José, también rey de Hungría, había fallecido el 21 de noviembre de 1916 en Schönbrunn, y el funeral tuvo lugar el 30 de noviembre de 1916. Numerosos dolientes del Imperio Húngaro habían llegado en tren. Se encontraban en la noche del 30 de noviembre al 1 de diciembre de 1916 en dos trenes especiales y el tren expreso nº 3, que fue dividido en dos partes debido al alto tráfico, en el viaje de regreso de Viena a Budapest. Los trenes habían tenido retraso.
