Se encuentra en el barrio de Ville-Haute y es, junto con las avenidas Porte-Neuve, Monterey y Marie-Thérèse, uno de los cuatro ejes principales que se abrieron tras la demolición de la fortaleza de Luxemburgo en el oeste y el norte de la ciudad. Al igual que las otras 3 calles, ha permitido construir y desarrollar nuevos barrios y facilitar el desarrollo de la ciudad.
