El pueblo fue mencionado por primera vez en 1153 como Ouermunte. El nombre actual significa "boca del Ur", sin embargo, el Ur se trasladó más tarde al pueblo. Urmond se desarrolló en la orilla más alta del Mosa. En 1400, se convirtió en parte del Ducado de Jülich. La antigua iglesia de San Martín fue construida entre 1791 y 1793. La torre medieval fue colocada en 1841. El cementerio está artificialmente elevado. En 1695, se construyó una iglesia reformada holandesa en Urmond, que es excepcional en Limburgo.
