Según la leyenda, Hulsterloo fue fundado después de que se encontrara una milagrosa imagen de María. En cualquier caso, había una capilla, al igual que algunas granjas, y se estaba realizando extracción de turba. La región se despobló principalmente durante el turbulento siglo XVI, aunque ya había empezado a decaer antes. Sin embargo, Hulsterloo se menciona explícitamente en el poema de Reynaert. Según el zorro, el 'tesoro de Kriekeputte' no está lejos de la capilla de Hulsterloo. Caza tesoros, ¡atención!: la capilla fue demolida en el siglo XVI. Hoy en día, Hulsterloo ya no existe y aquí puedes encontrar el municipio holandés de Nieuw-Namen, así como el municipio fronterizo de Kieldrecht.
