Laut der Legende wurde Hulsterloo gegründet, nachdem eine wundersame Marienstatue gefunden wurde. Auf jeden Fall gab es eine Kapelle, ebenso wie einige Bauernhöfe, und es wurde Torf gewonnen. Die Region entvölkerte sich vor allem während des unruhigen 16. Jahrhunderts, auch wenn es schon zuvor bergab ging. Hulsterloo wird jedoch ausdrücklich im Reynaertepos erwähnt. Laut dem Fuchs liegt der „Schatz von Kriekeputte“ nicht weit von der Kapelle von Hulsterloo. Schatzjäger aufgepasst: Die Kapelle wurde im 16. Jahrhundert abgerissen. Gegenwärtig existiert Hulsterloo nicht mehr und hier findet man die niederländische Gemeinde Nieuw-Namen sowie die Grenzgemeinde Kieldrecht.
