El Hermitage Ámsterdam es un museo donde se pueden ver diversas exposiciones de arte de varias colecciones museísticas. Siempre hay una exposición de la colección del Museo Hermitage en San Petersburgo, con más de tres millones de objetos, siendo uno de los museos más grandes del mundo. Además, de la colección del Museo de Ámsterdam, se pueden ver famosos retratos grupales holandeses del siglo XVII de la Edad de Oro neerlandesa, en la exposición Retratos grupales del siglo XVII. Desde 2016, también se encuentra el Museo de Arte Outsider en el Hermitage.
El museo comenzó como una sucursal de la Hermitage en San Petersburgo. Se inauguró en febrero de 2004, aún modestamente en tamaño y ubicado en un anexo en Nieuwe Herengracht. En 2009, se mudó al gran edificio de Amstelhof. Fue inaugurado oficialmente el 19 de junio de 2009 por la reina Beatriz y el presidente ruso Dmitri Medvédev, y se abrió al público el 20 de junio. Desde el principio, el Hermitage ha sido muy visitado. Apenas un año después, el 15 de agosto de 2010, se registró al visitante número un millón, y en 2019, también el 15 de agosto, se dio la bienvenida al visitante cinco millones.
De 2004 a 2011, Ernst Veen fue director del Hermitage. Después, Cathelijne Broers asumió esta función.
