La mención más antigua, Euuic Silec, data del año 855 de una lista de donaciones al monasterio de Werden. Otra explicación es que en este documento de 855 se enumeran donaciones que primero mencionan el bien y luego al siervo que vive allí. 'Euuic' podría referirse al lugar y 'Silec' al nombre del residente. Alrededor de 1900, era un pueblo 'vibrante' con casi 600 habitantes y algo de industria del tabaco. Hasta 1933 contaba también con dos escuelas primarias. Actualmente, solo queda una casa de pueblo.
