Die älteste Erwähnung, Euuic Silec, stammt aus dem Jahr 855 aus einer Schenkungsurkunde an das Kloster Werden. Eine andere Erklärung ist, dass in dieser Urkunde von 855 Schenkungen aufgelistet werden, die zuerst das Gute erwähnen und dahinter den Leibeigenen, der dort wohnt. 'Euuic' würde dann den Ort bezeichnen und 'Silec' den Namen des Bewohners. Um 1900 bildete es ein 'blühendes' Dorf mit fast 600 Einwohnern und einer gewissen Tabakindustrie. Bis 1933 gab es dort auch zwei Grundschulen. Derzeit gibt es dort nur noch ein Dorfgemeinschaftshaus.
