La estación se puso en funcionamiento al inicio del horario de 2008, el 9 de diciembre de 2007. La estación fue construida para dar servicio a la parte oriental de Heerlen. En la inauguración de la estación, todos los trenes paraban en la estación, pero a partir de diciembre de 2015 se eliminó la parada de los trenes de DB en dirección a Herzogenrath/Aquisgrán.
