El castillo Selwerd era una casa de piedra fortificada construida fuera de la ciudad de Groningen en la Edad Media. Se sabe exactamente dónde estuvo este castillo, al noroeste de la ciudad de Groningen, junto al actual cementerio Selwerderhof, entre el canal Van Starkenborgh y la carretera Paddepoelsterweg. Allí se encuentra la zona de pasto ondulante conocida como los Huppels, el lugar histórico del castillo Selwerd. Se puede observar desde una torre de vigilancia, que está situada en la Calle hacia el Monasterio. Esto se refiere al Monasterio Selwerd, y es un antiguo camino de arcilla que aparece en un mapa del siglo XVIII. En la década de 1990 se llevaron a cabo varias investigaciones arqueológicas en este terreno. Desde 1975, el terreno es un monumento nacional arqueológico subterráneo protegido.
