Le château de Selwerd était une maison forte en pierre construite en dehors de la ville de Groningue au Moyen Âge. On sait exactement où se trouvait ce château, à savoir au nord-ouest de la ville de Groningue, à côté de l'actuel cimetière de Selwerderhof, entre le canal de Van Starkenborgh et la Paddepoelsterweg. Là se trouve la prairie vallonnée appelée les Huppels, l'emplacement historique du château de Selwerd. Il peut être observé depuis une tour de guet, qui est placée le long de la Laan naar het Klooster. Cela fait référence au monastère de Selwerd, et c'est un ancien chemin d'argile qui apparaît sur une carte du 18e siècle. Dans les années 1990, plusieurs recherches archéologiques ont été menées sur ce site. Le terrain est depuis 1975 un monument national archéologique protégé.
