A finales del siglo XIII se comenzó la construcción de una pequeña iglesia de salón hecha de piedra toba. En el lado norte había una adición que servía como sacristía. La torre también estaba hecha de piedra toba. Después de 1450, la iglesia románica fue ampliada en estilo gótico tardío con ladrillos hasta convertirse en una pseudobasílica con dos naveslaterales, cubiertas por una bóveda de cañón de madera. La torre de cincuenta y cinco metros de altura se construyó en 1527, en un estilo derivado de la Catedral de Utrecht. Se construyó una torre prácticamente idéntica en Eemnes-Buiten. En el siglo XVII se añadió una capilla en el lado sur.
