El canal Ámsterdam-Rijn es el canal entre Ámsterdam y Tiel (del IJ al Waal). Conecta el puerto de Ámsterdam con la cuenca del Ruhr (Alemania) y es el canal más transitado del mundo. El canal tiene 72 kilómetros de longitud, 100 a 120 metros de ancho y 6 metros de profundidad.
En 1931 se estableció por ley que el canal debía construirse. Sin embargo, la crisis y la Segunda Guerra Mundial retrasaron la construcción. Solo el 21 de mayo de 1952 fue inaugurado el canal, por la Reina Juliana, a lo largo de toda su longitud de 72 kilómetros.
