Las casas de entramado de madera con vigas oscuras y argamasa blanqueada son características del paisaje montañoso del sur de Limburgo. Lo particular de esta granja de entramado es que, como uno de los pocos edificios en los Países Bajos, no tiene cimientos. La roca sobre la que se construyó la Hoeve Vernelsberg en 1323 se formó hace unos 300 millones de años y es extremadamente dura. Dos de los establos y el horno de pan están construidos con la piedra azul local. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, el establo de ganado fue alcanzado por una bomba V1.
