Los cafés y muchos restaurantes en las calles alrededor de la plaza Gerard Douplein están muy concurridos. El Pilsvogel en la esquina de la plaza aparece en el famoso libro ‘Komt een vrouw bij de dokter’ de Kluun. El protagonista le gusta ir allí y lo llama ‘un local disfrazado de bar clásico donde vienen las chicas de De Pijp’. La obra de arte en la plaza fue diseñada por Henk Duijn.
Quería crear una joya en la que las diferentes culturas del vecindario pudieran reconocerse. Los rosetones de latón y vidrio incrustados reflejan la luz del sol durante el día. Por la noche, se forma un dibujo de luz a través de las fuentes de luz que están integradas en las coronas de bronce abiertas. Junto con la obra de arte en Van der Helstplein y el ornamento de luz en el techo del Okurahotel, esto da inicio a una ruta de luz a través de De Pijp.
