El Lingebos es un bosque muy joven. Su creación comenzó en 1958, durante la redistribución de tierras de la Valoración de Tiel Occidental. Además de la creación de la naturaleza, el Lingebos tenía otras dos funciones: espacio para la recreación de los residentes de la Randstad y extracción de arena para la autopista A15 y la salida en Gorinchem. El 26 de junio de 1969, el Lingebos fue inaugurado oficialmente por la entonces princesa Beatriz. En los años 80, el interés por las áreas recreativas disminuyó, lo que resultó en la división de la gestión del Lingebos. El Lingebos ahora consta de dos áreas. La zona natural bajo la supervisión de Staatsbosbeheer y una zona recreativa gestionada por el municipio de Lingewaal. La piscina recreativa tiene 10 ha de tamaño y en algunos lugares llega a tener 14 metros de profundidad.
