El desastre ferroviario de Harmelen ocurrió el lunes 8 de enero de 1962 a las 9:19 cerca del pueblo de Harmelen, en Utrecht, situado en la línea ferroviaria Utrecht - Woerden. En la colisión entre dos trenes de pasajeros, hubo 93 muertos y 52 heridos, lo que lo convierte en el mayor desastre ferroviario en la historia de los ferrocarriles en los Países Bajos. El accidente fue marcado como una catástrofe nacional. El viernes 12 de enero de 1962 se proclamó como un día de luto nacional y las emisoras de radio de Hilversum también emitieron durante los días intermedios solo música seria y programas adaptados.
