El área fue dividida en dos durante la construcción del Noordervaart. La parte sur, actualmente administrada por Staatsbosbeheer, es un remanente de Peel. Debido a que el turba fue excavada para la obtención de turba, se ha creado una zona rica en agua.
La parte norte del área fue transformada en una zona industrial. En 2011, se llevó a cabo un proyecto de compensación natural en la altura del antiguo pantano allí y se creó un estanque de 100 por 180 metros y un bosque.
