Bovensmilde es una aldea en la provincia de Drenthe, Países Bajos. Es parte del municipio de Midden-Drenthe y se encuentra a unos seis kilómetros al suroeste de Assen. La aldea fue mencionada por primera vez en 1847 como Boven-Smilde y se refiere a la parte noreste de la excavación de turba de Smilde. Bovensmilde es un asentamiento lineal que comenzó como una aldea de excavación de turba a lo largo del Drentsche Hoofdvaart. A veces se le conocía como Nieuw-Smilde.
