Bovensmilde è un villaggio nella provincia di Drenthe nei Paesi Bassi. Fa parte del comune di Midden-Drenthe e si trova a circa sei chilometri a sud-ovest di Assen. Il villaggio è stato menzionato per la prima volta nel 1847 come Boven-Smilde e si riferisce alla parte nord-orientale dell'escavazione di torba di Smilde. Bovensmilde è un insediamento lineare che ha avuto inizio come un villaggio di escavazione di torba lungo il Drentsche Hoofdvaart. A volte è stato chiamato Nieuw-Smilde.
