La estación de Den Helder se puso en funcionamiento el 20 de diciembre de 1865 con la apertura de la línea de tren Den Helder - Alkmaar. Esta fue la segunda línea de ferrocarril puesta en servicio por la Compañía Holandesa de Ferrocarriles, después de la Vieja Línea. Fue la primera parte de la línea estatal K, construida por el Estado de los Países Bajos, desde Nieuwediep hasta Ámsterdam.
