Station Den Helder blev taget i brug den 20. december 1865 med åbningen af jernbanelinjen Den Helder - Alkmaar. Dette var den anden jernbanelinje, der blev taget i brug af Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij, efter den Gamle Linje. Det var den første del af den jernbanelinje, der blev anlagt af den hollandske stat, Statslinje K, fra Nieuwediep til Amsterdam.
