En todas partes donde caminamos, el Largo Jaap nos observa. Esta torre de luz, que oficialmente se llama Kijkduin, con una altura de 63,45 metros es el faro más alto en funcionamiento de Países Bajos y la torre de fundición de hierro más alta de Europa. Desde 1988, el faro tiene el estatus de monumento nacional. Mucho de qué estar orgulloso, pero también muchas preocupaciones. El faro ya no está accesible al público desde hace tiempo, debido a que se han encontrado grietas graves en las paredes y suelos. En caso de viento sostenido superior a fuerza 9 BFT, incluso se aplica una prohibición de acceso en un radio de setenta metros alrededor de la torre. Aunque generalmente hace viento en Den Helder, hoy está en calma, lo que nos permite admirar la torre de cerca con tranquilidad.
