La Iglesia Reformada de Vlijmen, en el municipio de Heusden, se encuentra cerca del Boerenschans, que fue establecido para la Línea de 1629. El influyente teólogo protestante e intelectual Gisberto Voetio comenzó su carrera como predicador en esta iglesia en 1611. Combinó este cargo con el puesto de predicador en Engelen. Voetio nació en 1589 en Heusden en una familia protestante y leal a la Casa de Oranje. En 1617 se convirtió en predicador de Heusden. Dos décadas más tarde, fue uno de los fundadores de la Universidad de Utrecht. En 1629, Voetio fue capellán de las tropas del Conde Guillermo de Nassau-Siegen, Gobernador de Heusden, durante el asedio de 's-Hertogenbosch. Tras la toma de la ciudad, desempeñó un papel importante en la rendición y la Reforma de 's-Hertogenbosch.
