La Chiesa Riformata di Vlijmen, nel comune di Heusden, si trova vicino alla Boerenschans fondata per la linea del 1629. Il teologo e intellettuale protestante di grande influenza, Gisbertus Voetius, iniziò nel 1611 la sua carriera di predicatore in questa chiesa. Combinò questo incarico con la posizione di predicatore a Engelen. Voetius nacque nel 1589 a Heusden da una famiglia protestante e filorandiana. Nel 1617 divenne predicatore a Heusden. Due decenni dopo, fu tra i fondatori dell'Università di Utrecht. Nel 1629, Voetius fu cappellano militare delle truppe del Conte Willem van Nassau-Siegen, Governatore di Heusden, durante l'assedio di 's-Hertogenbosch. Dopo la conquista della città, svolse un ruolo importante nella resa e nella Riforma di 's-Hertogenbosch.
