El puente Nybrua, que fue construido en 1827, se encuentra en el distrito de Grünerløkka. Es cruzado por Storgata, que continúa como Trondheimsveien en el lado este del río. Al mismo tiempo, Storgata fue alargada y se creó la parte inferior de Trondheimsveien.
Como el principal punto de entrada de Oslo desde el norte, se convirtió en parte del Trondhjemske hovedvei, que comienza en Nybrua y va hasta los límites de la ciudad en Vestli.
Más tarde, el puente Vaterland, así como las calles Brugata y Lakkegata, también se añadieron a la ruta, al norte de la ciudad. Nybrua fue ampliado y reforzado más tarde para soportar tranvías y tráfico motorizado moderno, aunque todavía se pueden ver partes de la estructura original.
