El Vuelo 7 de LOT se estrelló cerca del Aeropuerto Okęcie en Varsovia , el 14 de marzo de 1980, debido a un fallo mecánico la tripulación abortó el aterrizaje y trató de virar. Los 87 tripulantes y pasajeros murieron. El accidente fue causado por la desintegración de uno de los discos de la turbina en uno de los motores del avión, lo que provocó una falla total del motor. Más tarde se descubrió que el disco de la turbina tenía fallas de fabricación.[1]
