El Largo dos Artistas, situado en pleno centro de la ciudad, debe su nombre actual a los artesanos que se reunían aquí para atraer nuevos trabajadores. En la Edad Media y la época moderna, aquí se reunían carpinteros, cerrajeros, sastres y otros. Estas reuniones continuaron hasta mediados del siglo XX, cuando el Largo do Senhor da Cruz se convirtió en el hogar de trabajadores cualificados del sector de la construcción.
Este monumento, inaugurado el 1 de mayo de 2002 , está dedicado a los trabajadores vilacondenses que contribuyeron a la expansión de la ciudad. Las tres figuras, construidas a escala humana y diseñadas por el escultor Manuel Sousa Pereira , representan a un carpintero, un obrero y un albañil .
