El Berguedà county is a land of astonishing mountains; they follow an intricate design and keep their secrets jealously. It is an ancient and legendary territory, crowned by summits ripped apart by the devil himself, a land of transhumant shepherds and courageous miners, a region with a wide variety of landscapes and a very plentiful and well preserved plant and animal life. In just three kilometres one can travel from typically Mediterranean environments to Alpine high mountain domains.
One could discover Berguedà in many ways, but there is no doubt that the best route to penetrate the intimacy of its landscapes is on foot. The ancient traditional trails, most from the medieval period, invite the pilgrim to take a journey across time, a slow, paced trip.On foot, one may recover the tempo of things, nature’s rhythms. The Pyrenees are very generous to the traveller. As well as offering roads (and businesses who specialize in guided tours), Berguedà has as well a good network of marked trails, with almost 2000 km. marked paths.
