Aujourd’hui, Mielen-boven-Alost fait partie de la commune belge de Gingelom en Région autonome du Limbourg.
Jusqu’en 1971, Mielen-boven-Alost était une commune indépendante de 750 habitants et après la fusion de 1977, elle est devenue une partie de Borlo dans la Hesbaye de Droog.
Le cœur de Mielen-boven-Alost s’étend le long des deux rives du Melsterbeek et selon une orientation nord-sud.
L’église néo-gothique Saint-Saturninus datant d’environ 1850 est située au centre du village et possède un chœur gothique tardif du XVIe siècle et des fonts baptismaux mosans du XIIIe siècle.
