Le hameau de Buchholz ? littéralement : bois de hêtre ? est à peine visible sur la carte. Il faut le chercher à l'extrême est de la province de Liège, à environ 5 km au sud-est de Büllingen, quelques kilomètres avant la frontière allemande, dans la proximité immédiate de Losheimergraben. Il compte à peine dix habitations et est complètement entouré par les vastes forêts de la frontière germano-belge, à environ 600 m d'altitude. Dans les environs immédiats, la Warche et le Medenbach prennent leur source, en plein cœur du magnifique Parc naturel des Hautes Fagnes-Eifel.
