Ce cimetière a été créé en juin 1917, lorsque l'extension du cimetière militaire de Vlamertinghe n'était plus possible en raison du manque d'espace et en préparation de la grande offensive (Troisième bataille d'Ypres). Le cimetière est resté en activité jusqu'en octobre 1918. La plupart des sépultures datent de la période juillet - décembre 1917. À Vlamertinge, de nombreuses unités d'artillerie étaient stationnées, ce qui explique que 884 des 1820 décès étaient liés à l'artillerie.
