Le 30 septembre 1937, le sanatorium Joseph Lemaire de Maxime Brunfaut est ouvert à l’attention internationale. Le bâtiment moderniste a servi de sanatorium pour les patients atteints de tuberculose et plus tard de maison de retraite. Lorsque le sanatorium a été fermé 50 ans plus tard, en 1987, son avenir était incertain. Après 20 ans d’inoccupation, il ne restait plus que l’ombre de la gloire dans laquelle le bâtiment avait été inauguré 70 ans plus tôt. À l’occasion de ces « anniversaires », la campagne RedHetSanatorium a été lancée.
