Le château de Rivieren est situé sur la commune de Ganshoren, au nord-ouest de Bruxelles. Il est entouré d'un étang dans un parc de 10 ha, le parc Albert Ier. Le château de Rivieren est mentionné sur une carte des environs de Bruxelles datant de 1665 mais son histoire commence au XIIIe siècle puisqu'il tient son nom des Seigneurs de Rivieren d'Aerschot. Son allure actuelle lui sera donnée grâce à François II de Kinschot, comte de Jette-Saint-Pierre et conseiller des finances des Archiducs Albert et Isabelle, qui lui confère un statut de véritable lieu de plaisance.
