Bayernwald est un site à Wijtschate qui garde vivante la mémoire de la Première Guerre mondiale. Il a été ouvert en avril 2004 après un an de restauration.
On peut y voir comment les Allemands sous la direction de Rupprecht de Bavière ont construit à cet endroit dans la commune actuelle de Heuvelland une colline de 40 mètres qu'ils ont transformée en une forteresse imprenable entre 1914 et 1917. Ce qui est encore visible ne représente à peine que 10 % de ce que c'était autrefois. Quatre bunkers en béton, 320 mètres de tranchées et deux puits de mine, profonds de 25 mètres, ont été restaurés.
