Bayernwald è un sito a Wijtschate che tiene viva la memoria della Prima Guerra Mondiale. È stato aperto dopo un anno di restauro nell'aprile 2004.
Si può vedere come i tedeschi, sotto la guida di Rupprecht di Baviera, avessero costruito in questo luogo dell'attuale comune di Heuvelland una collina alta 40 metri che tra il 1914 e il 1917 trasformarono in una fortezza inespugnabile. Ciò che è ancora visibile rappresenta appena il 10% di quello che era una volta. Quattro bunker di cemento, 320 metri di trincee e due pozzi minerari, profondi 25 metri, sono stati restaurati.
