Un célèbre "fils de Duisburg" est Sven De Leijer. Il est attaché à sa région d'origine et il profite chaque année des fêtes du village : "Cela dure deux semaines, chaque jour il y a quelque chose à faire. Presque tout le monde du village y est et tout le monde est de bonne humeur. Dans un tel village, je veux voir grandir mon petit garçon insouciamment. J'ai moi-même longtemps été dans le mouvement de jeunesse et j'ai été actif dans le conseil jeunesse. Combien de fois n'ai-je pas fait rire des gens ici, sur une scène, dans un costume bizarre ou un autre ?"
